Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits–who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
This is one of the verses pastor Timothy shared last night regarding God's ability to divinely heal his children. I was reminded this morning of the promises of God in his word. We talked last night about how God truly needs to humble our hearts. Who are we to be so arrogant as to read God's promises and think that he can't do what he promised? Do we believe God at his word? Or do we pick and choose what we believe?
Many of us mix our own ideas that we've gathered from living in this world to the word of God. Some of these ideas are so convincing. They seem to make sense. Yet, they contradict the word of God. Which will we choose?
Let us choose God this day. These promises of God (all of which are so great that they are unbelievable) are real. He is telling us in this psalm to not forget his promises. Why would he say that if he does not intend on keeping them?
One of his many promises is that he will "crowns (us) with love and compassion, who satisfies (our) desires with good things so that (our) youth is renewed like the eagle's." God is to be our utmost desire in our lives. We can't serve two masters. We can't desire our on desires or the things of the world and desire God at the same time.
But when we desire God and seek after his heart, he will renew our youth. To me, this speaks of his forgiveness. Being youthful and child-like is to be innocent. Uncorrupted by bitterness, anger, and all the reminders of the past baggage we tend to carry around in our hearts. We know that many people are living with so much suffering, because they cannot let go of their past. But when we desire after God's own heart, he can do this miracle in our lives and much much more.
Let's praise God this day and not forget his promises!
